Scott Tallman Powers was born January 5th, 1972 in Birmingham, Alabama. He is a BFA (Bachelor of Fine Arts) graduate of the American Academy of Art in Chicago Illinois, USA. He spent many years as an illustrator in a Chicago ad agency before pursuing his dream of a full-time fine artist. He is a board member for the Oil Painters of America, member of The Portrait Society of America, and The American Society of Portrait Artists. Powers is currently working as a professional portrait painter, and he also teaches landscape, and portrait painting at The Palette & Chisel Academy of Fine Art in Chicago.

Scott Powers is also the founder of "The Plein Air Painters of Chicago" group; a weekly outdoor painting organization.   Scott was profiled as one of America's top plein air painters in the February 2008 issue of American Artist Magazine along with studio mate Wesley James Drake.
