valerie guignon

    Valery Guignon has spent the past 25 years primarily working in her own design firm, selling to galleries nationwide and directly to the public through craft fairs.  She has been making art since childhood on Long Island, and has been carefully honing her skills ever since.  She studied art seriously in high school, where she was voted "best artist".  She graduated from the Pratt Institute in Brooklyn with a Bachelor's in Industrial Design.  Valery has studied ethnic costume design in Guatemala, Senegal and Mali, as well as the art of making kimonos in Japan.  She began creating wearable art under her own label in 1980 and started teaching her distinctive techniques at Mendocino Art Center in California a couple of years later.  since then, she has taught her crafts at venues around the country.  Currently, Guignon Designs focuses on textile dyeing and silk painting for her distinctive scarves, shawls and purses.

    Valery lives in Dallas, Texas, where she also teaches yoga and is a yoga therapist.  Other interests include dance, meditation, boating, hiking, and reading.
