COMING NEXT TO CARMEN'S GALLERY

SEPT 18:  Cultural Study Abroad and the Corcoran come to carmen's for Sicily Painters - Part I: 7-9 p.m.

Sicily's Villa Donnafugata...a great place to live and paint!

Carmen paints with Dutch friend, Lidy Van DeLeur (notice her apron!)

A bedraggled group's first dinner at Villa Donnafugata at midnight!

September 18 from 7 - 9 p.m. (evening show follows ArtsFest):  Cultural Study Abroad (CSA) Art exhibition Sicily Painters - Part 1:

The Cultural Study Abroad program hosted a painting trip to Sicily, which Carmen attended.  Painters (Carmen was the only beginner!) were encouraged to step out of their comfort zone as far as style, subject matter, and medium.  Painting for 6 hours daily for 10 days resulted in a lot of growth for everyone.  This show will feature work done by this group in Sicily.  The Director of CSA, Angela Iovine, will attend as will the Corcoran School of Art professor, Steven Cushner, who was our great teacher during the 10 day event.  The artists will be on hand to discuss the trip and their paintings.  This is a little different kind of show for us, but we thought that you might like to see what influences the art we produce and how different interpretations of the same scene can bring such a varied assortment of paintings.  There will be something for everybody!  Please join us and maybe there will be a CSA trip in your future.

Painters to be featured include Deborah Addison Coburn, Kathy Camicia, Annie Hanson, Angela Iovino, Mary Reader, and Carmen.

November 13 (evening show):  Debra Howard - New Works.  Debra Howard's art has really taken off in Solomons.  Howard is the resident artist on Tangier Island for the next year.  She just returned from a summer of sailing from Maine to the Bahamas, painting all the while.  Her style is creative and unmatched by anyone.  Please plan to join Debra at the gallery to see the results of her travels.  (shown below are 2 of Debra Howard's oil paintings)

AND, TENTATIVELY PLANNED FOR 2010....

October - date to be determined...We are hoping to repeat our "Turkish Delights" show.. with Donn .  We have been talking about holding another Turkish Rug weekend here at the gallery with our Turkish friends from Istanbul.  We'll do it for 2 days this time so that we can BBQ and also send rugs on approval overnight.  This really is tentative, but in the works!
